Uganda is home to over half of the world’s remaining Rothschild Giraffes! That makes our role ever more so critical!
At Uganda Conservation Foundation, we work alongside Uganda Wildlife Authority and partners to protect their habitats by constructing strategically located ranger posts and supporting the Veterinary Unit for rapid emergency response. We train and equip rangers for effective patrols and law enforcement, and support logistics and operations. We also conduct surveys and research to inform long-term giraffe protection.
Once reduced to fewer than 200 individuals, Uganda’s giraffe population is now rebounding, thanks to years of deliberate, consistent conservation.
Giraffes are more than just lofty and beautiful animals, they are keystone species; their browsing shapes vegetation, their movement disperses seeds, and their presence supports entire ecosystems.
When we protect giraffes, we protect entire ecosystems.
Happy World Giraffe day!
