The long-awaited Environmental and Social Impact Assessment on proposed oil developments in Murchison Falls National Park and the surrounding areas is now out. The statement from NEMA and the link to the full report can be read below.
“The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report for the proposed Tilenga Project by the joint developers Total (E&P) Uganda B.V and Tullow Uganda Operations PTY Ltd. In accordance with Section 20(5) of the National Environment Act, Cap 153; and Regulations 19 & 20 of the National Environment (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations S.I 153-1; the general public and persons specifically affected by the Tilenga project are invited to study the ESIA Report and make comments to the same.
The invitation to the general public seeks to offer different stakeholders the opportunity to voice out their opinions and comments on the environmental and social implications of the Proposed Tilenga project so that the development of the discovered Oil & Gas resources can be done in a manner that ensures sustainable development for the present and future generations.
You are kindly requested to take a moment and fill out the FEED-BACK FORM after studying the Tilenga Project ESIA Report. Individual or collective comments from stakeholders can be submitted to the Executive Director using the address at the end of the form.
The deadline for receiving feedback is 9th November 2018.”
